According to data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan’s output of hot rolled (HR) stainless steel totaled 240,756 tons in July, down by 3% month on month and reducing by 5.7% year on year.
Among them, the output of chrome-based stainless steel totaled 123,812 tons, rising by 1.9%; that of nickel-based stainless steel was at 116,944 tons, falling by and that of other specialty steel products was at 7,907 tons, rising by 9%, all compared to that in a month earlier.
Meanwhile, the country’s production of nickel-based stainless steel has decreased by consecutive five months; however, the output of chrome-based stainless steel has increased for consecutive five months.
In the end of July, the Japanese steel mills’ stocks of stainless steel totaled 124,192 tons, declining by 3% from a month earlier.
